A season ago the West Des Moines Valley girls basketball team made a run to the 5A State Championship game, where they fell in a hard fought game to Waukee. Many people were wondering how the Tigers would offset the back court losses of Grace Vander Weide & Whitney Fuller. But a freshman has stepped into the point guard role in Shea Fuller. Fuller took over the point guard position from her sister Whitney and has done a proficient job. Fuller is averaging 8.3 points per game and has 41 assists on the season.
Valley Head Coach Joe Sigrist says, “She is mature beyond her age, on the basketball floor. She might not garner the attention of some others on the team but we are much better because of her consistent play, especially lately.”
Off the basketball floor, Fuller is very involved in the community. She is a volunteer at LCOH Bible School, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Silver Cord program. She also plays volleyball with the Westside Strikers.
Congratulations to Shea Fuller, this weeks McAninch Student Athlete of the week. If you know of the student athlete that is deserving of a nomination, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
